Size Guide:
As a general guide, your artwork should cover around 60% to 75% of the wall space. This helps it feel present without crowding the room.
If you're hanging art above furniture, aim for the piece to be about two-thirds to three-quarters of the width of what's below. This keeps everything visually connected.
It's also worth considering color - choose tones that complement your space to create a cohesive, effortless look.
If you're unsure, try marking out sizes with masking tape on your wall. Live with it for a day or two - it's the easiest way to see what feels right.
These are just guidelines - always choose what feels right for your space.

About this art: “A Melody Above the World”
This 100% hand-painted original black horse with musician and dancer oil painting features an elongated black horse carrying a tiny flute-playing figure and a dancer against an olive-green background. Its tall vertical format creates a distinctive focal point while preserving the expressive character of the painted surface.
The horse's long legs create a strong vertical foundation. Above its back, a striped musician and an ivory-clad dancer introduce graceful movement and a whimsical sense of performance, with small red accents punctuating the green and black palette.
Blending contemporary surreal figurative art with expressive oil-painting techniques, this artwork brings together recognizable subject matter and an individual approach to color and form. The arrangement invites the viewer to notice both the overall composition and the smaller variations within the painted marks.
It is an excellent choice for anyone searching for a black horse musician dancer oil painting, surreal equestrian canvas, vertical figurative wall art, original hand-painted canvas art, or a vertical statement painting for a living room, dining room, entryway, or home office. Its subject and palette make it suitable for residential rooms and thoughtfully designed hospitality spaces.
Painted entirely by hand with professional oil paints on high-quality canvas, each finished piece has its own individual character. Slight variations may appear in the brushwork, contours, spacing, paint thickness, color blending, and small details. These natural differences preserve the artwork's handmade quality while maintaining the overall subject, composition, and atmosphere.
Based on the visible surface, this artwork features visible directional brushwork, layered green ground and painted figure details. Some areas remain relatively soft and blended, while more defined passages create contrast and guide attention through the composition. The texture belongs to the painted surface and is intended to be appreciated alongside the colors and forms.
The main colors include olive green, black, ivory, cream, and red accents. Their distribution connects the central subject with the surrounding space, allowing both brighter accents and quieter passages to contribute to the overall balance. Natural daylight reveals subtle tonal changes, while warm interior lighting brings a softer atmosphere to the painting.
The composition uses differences in scale, spacing, and tonal contrast to establish its visual rhythm. More concentrated passages attract the eye first, then gentler transitions lead outward through the canvas. This balance helps the artwork feel expressive and substantial without relying on excessive decorative detail.
The artwork is designed in a vertical format with an approximate 2:3 proportion. This orientation suits placement above an entryway console, beside a bed, over a reading chair, on a staircase landing, or above a compact office cabinet. Leave some open wall around the frame to make the painting a clear visual centerpiece and choose a size that relates comfortably to the furniture below.
The palette complements cream upholstery, natural linen, pale oak, warm walnut, and restrained metal accessories. Small cushions, throws, or ceramics can echo selected colors from the artwork. Combining different furniture materials keeps the room relaxed and allows the painted composition to remain the main point of interest.

The musician, dancer, and green backdrop make this folk-inspired horse art captivating. I would prefer slightly shorter legs on the horse, although the exaggerated proportions contribute to its dreamlike character.

The red footwear and headwear stand out beautifully against cream, black, and olive green. These thoughtful accents give the whimsical figurative painting an engaging visual rhythm.

The tall format emphasizes the horse's slender legs while leaving space around the tiny performers. This vertical horse artwork has a memorable and beautifully balanced composition.

Visible surface texture adds depth to the green background and dark horse. The textured painting pairs an earthy color palette with expressive, stylized forms.

The horse's long legs and dark silhouette create a striking focal point. This unusual equestrian wall art combines graceful proportions with a charming fantasy scene.
“
“In the Canadian wilderness, silence is never empty—it is filled with the movement of water, wind, and light. I paint to hold onto that quiet energy.”
Theo Arden
About The Artist
Theo Arden is a contemporary painter from Banff, Canada, whose work is deeply shaped by the forests, rivers, mountains, and changing skies of the Canadian landscape. Living close to nature, he draws inspiration from the raw stillness of woodland paths, rocky streams, and the subtle atmosphere that exists between weather, terrain, and memory.
Working primarily in textured oil paint, Theo builds his compositions through layered brushwork, palette-knife marks, and earthy tonal shifts. His palette often includes forest greens, stone greys, deep charcoals, misty blues, and muted neutrals—colors that reflect the calm strength and organic rhythm of the natural world.
Rather than simply portraying scenery, Theo seeks to express the emotional presence of a place: the weight of silence, the softness of light, and the grounded feeling of standing within nature. His paintings bring a sense of depth, stillness, and understated warmth, making them especially suited to interiors that value calm, texture, and timeless character.
