Size Guide:
As a general guide, your artwork should cover around 60% to 75% of the wall space. This helps it feel present without crowding the room.
If you're hanging art above furniture, aim for the piece to be about two-thirds to three-quarters of the width of what's below. This keeps everything visually connected.
It's also worth considering color - choose tones that complement your space to create a cohesive, effortless look.
If you're unsure, try marking out sizes with masking tape on your wall. Live with it for a day or two - it's the easiest way to see what feels right.
These are just guidelines - always choose what feels right for your space.

About this art: “Sunlight Over the Falls”
This 100% hand-painted original waterfall oil painting captures the beauty of flowing water, shimmering sunlight, dark rocks, and a subtle rainbow forming in the mist. The artwork focuses on a cascading stream as it pours over the rocks, while warm golden reflections dance across the water’s surface. The combination of moving water, brilliant highlights, and rich natural tones creates a vivid, peaceful, and visually captivating scene full of motion and atmosphere.
Blending elements of landscape oil painting, impressionistic light effects, and modern decorative art, this piece transforms a natural stream into an expressive and elegant work of art. The water is painted with luminous blues, whites, golds, and soft reflective tones, while the rocks are rendered in deeper shades that create contrast and depth. The rainbow detail adds a magical and uplifting touch, making this artwork ideal for collectors and interior spaces that seek a nature-inspired focal point. It is an excellent choice for anyone searching for an original waterfall oil painting, stream landscape wall art, rainbow waterfall painting, sunlight on water artwork, hand-painted nature canvas, or luxury vertical wall décor.
Painted entirely by hand with professional oil paints on high-quality canvas, this piece is a genuine original artwork, not a print, poster, machine-made image, or digital reproduction. Because every painting is completed by hand, slight variations in water flow, reflected light, rainbow tones, rock texture, brushwork, and color transitions may appear. These natural differences give each finished painting its own individual character and authentic handmade value.
Based on the visual surface, this painting features moderate visible texture and expressive flowing brushwork. The water is built through layered applications of white, blue, gold, and translucent tones to suggest movement, reflection, and the sparkling effect of sunlight. The darker rock areas use deeper blues, charcoal, and earthy greens to create contrast and structural balance. Bright highlights add freshness and energy, while the softly blended rainbow introduces a subtle prismatic glow. Overall, the artwork has a moderate textured finish that balances painterly expression with natural detail.
The artwork is designed in a vertical format, with the water flowing from the upper portion of the canvas downward into the lower section. This strong vertical composition creates a clear sense of movement and draws the viewer’s eye naturally through the scene. The sunlit water at the top, the central waterfall, and the foaming water below combine to create a dynamic composition with depth and rhythm. Its vertical shape makes it especially suitable for narrow walls, entryways, stair areas, reading corners, and other interior spaces that benefit from upward visual emphasis.
Recommended spaces include:
- Living room accent wall
- Bedroom side wall or reading corner
- Dining room, hallway, or entryway
- Staircase wall

The main colors include deep blue, lake blue, gray-blue, white, golden yellow, olive green, mossy brown-green, charcoal black, and soft rainbow tones. This mixture of cool and warm colors creates a beautiful balance between freshness and warmth. The reflective water brings light into a room, while the darker surrounding tones add elegance and contrast. The result is a sophisticated natural palette that works beautifully in contemporary Western interiors.

The cool blue water works wonderfully with the warm golden reflections. The olive tones in the upper stream bring the colors together naturally.
A
I enjoy how the loose brushwork captures the rushing water. The close view makes the cascade feel immediate and engaging.
E
The contrast between the shaded rocks and luminous water is beautiful. The bright reflections give the painting a strong focal point.
O
The small rainbow near the falling water adds an unexpected touch of color. It makes this intimate nature scene especially memorable.
J
The sweeping strokes follow the water as it tumbles over the rocks. The composition has an energy that keeps my eye moving through the scene.
E
The golden highlights scattered across the stream are captivating. They make the flowing water feel bright and lively against the dark rocks.
I
The combination of golden glints, blue water, and white foam is striking. The painting captures both the force and delicate beauty of a small waterfall.
N
The dark rocks on either side guide attention toward the cascade. Their solid shapes balance the fluid strokes of the water.
N
The flowing brushwork and reflections are lovely. A subtler rainbow would suit my taste better, but it gives the composition a distinctive accent.
G
The rushing water and luminous reflections suggest a refreshing woodland stream. The rainbow adds a gentle sense of wonder.
B
The visible brushwork gives the scene a rich, expressive appearance. I particularly like the layered strokes where the water spills over the rocky edge.
S
The broken patches of light suggest sunlight dancing on ripples. They add brightness without hiding the shapes of the flowing water.
H
The tall format follows the drop of the waterfall beautifully. My eye travels from the sunlit surface down to the soft white foam.
D
The cascade and sunlight are very appealing. I would personally prefer slightly more detail in the darkest rocks, though their shadows make the water stand out.
C
Focusing on a small section of the stream gives this artwork a distinctive perspective. The water, foam, and rock surfaces offer plenty to explore.
“
“I am drawn to the moments when light softens the edges of the world. Through color and texture, I try to preserve the atmosphere before it quietly disappears.”
Elodie Marchand
About The Artist
Elodie Marchand is a contemporary painter from Paris, France, known for atmospheric landscapes shaped by soft light, layered color, and expressive brushwork. Inspired by the changing skies, quiet countryside, and understated elegance of the French landscape, she creates paintings that feel both intimate and expansive.
Working with brushes and palette knives, Elodie builds translucent passages alongside richly textured areas, allowing the surface to shift between calm detail and spontaneous movement. Her muted greens, warm earth tones, misty blues, and luminous neutrals give each composition a poetic sense of depth.
Rather than reproducing a place exactly, Elodie paints the memory and emotion it leaves behind. Her work brings a refined, contemplative atmosphere to modern interiors while retaining the warmth and individuality of a genuinely hand-painted artwork.
