Size Guide:
As a general guide, your artwork should cover around 60% to 75% of the wall space. This helps it feel present without crowding the room.
If you're hanging art above furniture, aim for the piece to be about two-thirds to three-quarters of the width of what's below. This keeps everything visually connected.
It's also worth considering color - choose tones that complement your space to create a cohesive, effortless look.
If you're unsure, try marking out sizes with masking tape on your wall. Live with it for a day or two - it's the easiest way to see what feels right.
These are just guidelines - always choose what feels right for your space.

About this art: “A Quiet Moment to Read”
This 100% hand-painted figurative oil painting portrays a woman in a black dress relaxing in an olive-green armchair, her face hidden behind a vivid red book. A warm floor lamp lights the scene, while a stack of books and her matching red heels add playful details. The composition makes a distinctive choice for anyone searching for a woman reading oil painting, book lover wall art, reading nook artwork, or textured figurative canvas painting.
Painted by hand with oil paints on canvas, each finished painting has the individual character of handmade art. Slight variations in brushstrokes, color blending, and small details may occur. It is not a print, poster, or digital reproduction.
Visible brushwork and raised painted details give the chair, clothing, books, and muted background a tactile appearance. The warm lamp and bold red accents stand out against the olive and taupe tones. Texture and paint buildup may vary slightly from one hand-painted piece to another.
Designed in a vertical format, the composition balances the tall floor lamp on one side with the seated reader on the other. Its shape works especially well above a low bookcase, beside a reading chair, or on a narrow wall in a home office.
Recommended spaces include:
- Reading nook or home library
- Living room beside a bookcase
- Bedroom accent wall
- Home office or study
- Entryway above a console table
- Bookshop, café, or creative studio
- Boutique hotel guest room or lounge
The main colors include olive green, black, warm taupe, cream, soft gold, and vivid red. These tones pair well with walnut furniture, warm neutral walls, leather seating, and brass lighting.
Custom sizes are available to suit different spaces. Customers may choose a framed or unframed version. A wood frame complements the warm reading-room atmosphere, while an aluminum frame gives the piece a cleaner contemporary finish. The unframed option keeps the focus on the expressive painted texture.
All orders include free worldwide shipping. Customers may request a free return or exchange within 30 days of receiving the artwork.

“I paint the quiet moments that remain after the city slows down—soft light, familiar rooms, and the private emotions hidden within color.”
Sophie Norlund
About The Artist
Sophie Norlund is a contemporary painter from Brooklyn, New York, whose work is inspired by urban interiors, changing evening light, literature, and the subtle emotional rhythm of everyday life. She is especially drawn to quiet cafés, studio windows, worn architecture, and the brief moments of solitude found within a busy city.
Working with brushes, palette knives, and layered oil paint, Sophie combines soft neutrals, muted blues, warm browns, dusty pinks, and restrained dark tones. Her surfaces move between smooth passages and visible texture, creating compositions that feel intimate, thoughtful, and gently atmospheric.
Rather than depicting a place exactly, Sophie paints the memory and mood it leaves behind. Her work explores stillness, reflection, and the relationship between personal space and emotion, bringing warmth, depth, and understated contemporary character to modern interiors.
